Break bulk shipping is the transportation of cargo that doesn’t fit into standard or special shipping containers. Items are packed into bags, pallets, drums, or boxes, or loaded as is onto the vessel. Break bulk cargo is loaded using cranes, rolled, or wheeled onboard. To be considered break bulk, items must be loaded individually, and not in a shipping container of any kind.
